Glungezer ski resort

Ski resort open

Open lifts 4/6

Beginners and experts, snowboarders and cruisers – despite its small size, the Glungezer ski resort really does have something for everyone. One of the main highlights of this resort above Hall in Tirol is the 15km descent down into the valley.

Glungezer may be one of the smaller ski resorts in the region, but it has big things to offer. Located to the south-east of Innsbruck, it is home to one of the the longest descents in the whole of Tirol at 15km from top to bottom. Accessed using the ten-person gondola and the "Tulfein Express" (combined chairlift and a cable car) plus another chairlift onto the Schartenkogel mountain, this more or less straight piste offers great views of the Nordkette mountains on the other side of the Inn Valley and is divided into two sections, with the first rated red (intermediate) and the second rated blue (easy). Starting from the highest point in the resort at 2,304m, skiers and snowboarders descend more than 1,300 vertical metres down to the bottom of the cable car in the village of Tulfes. On the way down they pass by the Glungezer Park with its four separate areas for snowboarders and freeskiers as well as restaurants such as the Alpengasthof Halsmarter and a beginners' area near the midway station of the cable car. An unusual sport popular in Tulfes is "Klumpern", similar to tobogganing but with just one runner instead of two. The challenge is to keep your balance while hurtling down the hill at speed. Great fun for all ages!
