Kräuterbauernhof Sagenschneider’s: Herb heaven

Chickens roaming the farmyard, a wild stream rushing past the farm and Shetland pony Willi keeping watch – the Kräuterbauernhof Sagenschneider’s would be a farmyard like any other in Tirol if it wasn’t for Elisabeth Maaß and her incredible herb collection.

Elisabeth Maaß’s passion for herbs started at a young age. The friendly, down-to-earth owner of the Kräuterbauernhof Sagenschneider’s grew up surrounded by all manner of weird and wonderful wild plants. Today she is famous throughout the region as an expert on herbs and their many uses. It should therefore come as little surprise that, upon entering the farmhouse, guests are greeted by the scent of drying flowers and herbs filling their nostrils.

Visitors staying on this farmstead located next to a mountain stream near Ried in the Upper Inn Valley will experience the huge potential of wild herbs, from healing ointments to delicious teas, tasty schnapps and even soothing bath salts. But the many herb products are by no means the only things which are homemade at the Kräuterbauernhof Sagenschneider’s: butter, yoghurt, milk, eggs, beef, pork and chicken all come directly from the farm. Particular favourites with children are the many animals, not least Willi the patient and friendly Shetland pony as well as the lively pair of goats Max and Moritz. Visitors are not only allowed stroke the animals – they are positively encouraged to do so!
