In some parts of Tirol, rock climbing as a sport and leisure activity dates back more than 100 years. Therefore, it is little surprise that this region in the heart of the Alps is known around the world as a haven for all those who like to challenge themselves on Europe's toughest rockfaces. Famous terrain in Tirol includes the area next to the Schleierwasserfall waterfall in the Kaiser Mountains, which offer some of the hardest rock climbing in the world.
However, Tirol certainly doesn't only cater for experienced climbers in search of the ultimate adrenaline kick. There are also plenty of easy climbing areas ideal for beginners and families. And on days when the weather gods are not smiling, there are a number of indoor climbing centres wih climbing instructors who will be happy to show beginners how to get started and have fun while staying safe. A popular activity for large groups is a visit to a high-rope adventure park, where participants are invited to test their nerve and footing on a range of obstacle courses high above the ground. And, last but not least, in winter there are numerous waterfalls in Tirol suitable for ice climbing.
