Yes, you can also swim in bier here, which has the effect of a fountain of youth, but it is also recommended that you drink this excellent beer, which has been awarded many gold medals. Schloss Starkenberg near Tarrenz is the only brewery in Austria that still manufactures the popular thirst-quencher without the use of chemical additives. The 195 year-old brewery has been modernised in recent years and the 695 year-old castle given a new lease of life. That’s why you can now dive into a true beer legend here: An informative tour takes you into the deepest vaults, cellars and passageways of the castle and presents the history of brewing from its beginnings to the present day.
Castle world of experience with knights’ hall
See the brewery in full operation, the 19th century mash house with the mash pan from approx. 1900 and the 16th century ice cellar with one of the first refrigerators in the world. The castle itself is also unique. It still has its 14th century entrance and the knight’s hall, where you can eat both sitting and – in mediaeval fashion – lying down. An idyllic park, a 19th century chapel, which is popular for weddings, and the nearby romantic Starkenberger Lake complete the experience of beer, castle, nature, tradition and the modern. The cosy “Schloss Stub'n” offers excellent food and delicious beer to toast a successful day with.
Getting there
Inn Valley motorway A12 (from Landeck or from Innsbruck) to Imst/Fernpass exit – then towards Fernpass on the B314 – turn left up the mountain between Imst and Tarrenz.
Füssen-Reutte over the Fernpass towards Imst – right after Tarrenz up the mountain.

The beer swimming pool is only open by prior arrangement.

Specials
Castle world of experience with brewery, museum and good restaurant; located in an idyllic castle park near to a romantic lake. The knights’ hall seats up to 100 people and can be hired for special occasions, including catering.
