Lamb meat and schnapps are the two culinary things most people would associate with Osttirol. Few would think of chocolate. But this is about to change …
The people of Osstirol are known for being inventive and creative. Whether this cliché has some truth to it or not you best judge for yourself when visiting the pristine region with its precipitous mountains. It is certainly true though for Hans Gerhard Pichler, master confectioner in Sillian in Pustertal. Baking breads and cakes is one thing....
… making chocolate quite another. Especially if you are as ambitious as Mr. Pichler who not only strives at making utterly delicious homemade treats, but also at breaking at world record: Pichler’s goal is to come up with the greatest variety of chocolates! So far his customers can choose from a mind-boggling 80 (!) different treats including evertying from “ordinary” tastes like cranberry, alpine rose honey, plum and blueberry to such unique creations as the “Radler” which blends pumpkin seeds, hazelnuts, almonds, sunflower seeds and raisins.
Another amazing creation is the Innsbruckerdachl" (Innsbruck’s Roof) which is a white cream truffle covered in milk chocolate; with Schilcher wine and nutmeg, on chestnuts, ginger, panna cotta and....
And then the incredible drinking chocolates!
We didn’t even get started yet … best you take a look at Pichler’s website where you can browse all the spectacular goodies, treats and (not so little) sins and order them online.
Enjoy!
