Annually on January 4th, the Four Hills Tournament stops in Innsbruck and since 2003 spectators can not only see pictures of sporty top performances but also pictures of an impressive architectural landmark, the ski jump planned by the British-Iraqi star architect Zaha Hadid.
Already the elegantly-curved, unsupported inrun of the 50m-high and 90m-long jump is exceptional if compared to regular, functional sports venues of this kind. The top of the jumping site is covered by sheet steel and features large glass areas. Inside are a panorama restaurant and an observation platform. The building is not only functional for the sport, but has also become a cultural tourist attraction.
