Departing from Matrei westwards and eastwards, walkers on Segments O 01 to O 08 encounter scenic Virgental Valley and Großglockner Mountain at its most beautiful. They can expect leisurely rambles to lovely mountain huts where they will gather new strength over hearty delicacies and beverages and they will marvel at cultural sights and attractions.
Graced by an unsurpassed panorama of 3,000-metre peaks, hikers on the challenging Segments O 09 to O 20 will master high altitude trails from hut-to-hut, traverse notches, crests and ridges and come close to Großvenediger Mountain and Großglockner Peak, Austria’s highest mountain. These hikes should only be attempted by those who have appropriate mountaineering skills and experience.
