Hall’s old town is one of Tirol’s most beautiful ones and it’s medieval lanes provide the perfect setting for a market.
Hall still lives in the shadow of Innsbruck – unjustly so though. Plus: it contradicts history. For centuries Hall was Tirol’s most important and largest city thanks to its salt mines and its convenient location on the River Inn. Goods which were brought from Italy across the Brenner pass where loaded onto boats here and shipped to Bavaria or the rest of Austria. In those days Hall was bustling with activity: it was Tirol’s major market town!
In the last years Hall has started going back to its roots by organizing several markets. A large Farmers’ Market is held on Saturdays at Oberer Stadplatz (9:00 am to 12 noon) and a smaller market takes place on Wednesdays (3:00 pm to 9:00 pm) where you can buy and sample all kinds of culinary delights and local specialties such as speck and cheeses, smoked fish and sweet crepes, artisan bread and fresh local produce.
The market also features a wonderful selection of handicrafts, folk art and artisanry. In addition to the market over 50 shops in the old town of Hall are open until 7:30 pm on Wednesdays. Look forward to a long day of shopping and sauntering through the medieval old town of Hall!
