In praise of creation in nine verses
This lovely trail of reflection is also a road for the senses: Contemporary sculptures of bronze and natural stone, created by academic sculptor Hubert Flörl, line the Franziskus Trail in Wildschönau. It runs between the villages of Oberau and Niederau and portray an impressive praise of creation, based on the Canticle of the Sun of St. Francis of Assisi. The artist looks to the sun, the universe, the wind, the weather, water, fire, to the world with its seeds and fruits, and to love and death. The nine stations correspond to the new verses of the Canticle of the Sun, which – so impressively staged – resounds in the memory for a long time afterwards.
Nature and art uniquely combined
The wonderful landscape of the “wild and beautiful” high-altitude Wildschönau valley inspires one to pause and reflect. Nature and art combine in unique harmony on the Franziskus Trail. The three kilometre-long trail, which starts at the church in Oberau, is a comfortable walk and easy to manage in one to one and a half hours, even for people who are not so fit or for families with children. It passes by the Miners’ Museum, which can also be paid a visit. This is accommodated in an attractive old farmhouse and houses farming tools from the past and present. In this way, the Franziskus Trail is also reminiscent of an impressive Praise to Work.
