Unsophisticated elegance and highly clerical pleasures are waiting for connoisseurs in Tirol's most impressive monastery.

An elegant Monastery Shop in baroque surroundings
Living from their own products and goods without any donations, taxes or fees was one of the most important rules of Saint Benedict, a follower of the Cistercian monks. They broke with the Benedictine Order in order to follow their principles independently when they recognized that the Benedictines started to amass wealth and all kinds of treasures (e.g. Cluny Abbey). Over the centuries, also the hard-working Cistercians gained prosperity and invested their returns in mighty buildings and architectural highlights. Reason enough to found splendid Stift Stams Monastery in 1273. "Ora et labora" is still the principle on which focuses the newly built, elegant Monastery Shop in almost ascetic style amid the wonderful Baroque surroundings...

Cool, unobtrusive, spiritual... The interior of the Shop
Stift Stams owns properties and lands, including a fishpond (today's Angling Center), huge orchards with colonies of bees and the scenic "Stamser Alm" pasturelands where cows, sheep and pigs spend the summer months. The product range available at the Monastery Shop is really varied. You can purchase homemade marmalades, fruit juices, schnapps and liquors to suit all tastes. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays freshly baked bread is available. Furthermore you can buy clerical literature and music, post cards or nice souvenirs. But we strongly recommend to take a bottle of excellent schnapps back home!
