Water - The Magic Source of Life
In Tirol water flows freely from faucets, spurts from natural springs and rumbles onto the lake shore.
Dorfbrunnen in Fiss
Tirol abounds with crystal clear water and natural sources. In the past, inn keepers sometimes drained the village well on days of parish fairs to "force" thirsty churchgoers to drink wine and schnapps instead of water. Although clean drinking water was and still is taken for granted, people soon realized that some waters have curative powers. In the beginning the mineral waters were mainly used for baths, only in the 18th and 19th century water fasting programs came into fashion. Spa guests bottled the curative water and brought it home with them. The logic consequence was the development of a "mineral water industry" which is booming in Tirol (e.g. Alpquell, Silberquelle, Sauerbrunn, etc.). But our greatest asset still is our high-quality tap water. A real culinary treat!
