Take a stroll through one of Tirol’s many Advent and Christmas Markets and sample great culinary delights.
What could be more beautiful than taking a stroll through a lovingly decorated Christmas market, hunt for presents and then relax over a hot drink or sample some culinary delights? Eating and drinking well is good for body, mind and soul.
Typically you find a great selection of drinks for all moods and tastes including the legendary mulled wine, fruity punches (with or without alcohol), all kinds of teas and infusions or refreshing mead (= honey wine). Hot drinks usually taste twice as good in the festive and merry ambiance of a Christmas market.
There are about as many different culinary delights as there are Christmas balls. Vendors sell snacks for those with in-between hunger pangs as well as complete meals. Highlights include the traditional Tirolean Kiacheln or Krapfen, deep-fried crullers which are served either sweet (with cranberries) or savory (with sauerkraut). The traditional dishes are often complemented by international specialties including everything from hearty grilled sausages to raclette and baked, fried or boiled potatoes. And no market would be complete without fresh farm produce.
