Sölden

Sölden is a big place with big ambitions. The many glaciers, mountains and meadows which surround it on all sides make Sölden the largest municipality in Austria with a surface area of 466.97 square kilometres – even bigger than the capital Vienna.

Sölden is a big place with big ambitions, so it is somehow fitting that this village at the end of the Ötztal Valley is the official European training base of the US Ski Team. Sölden also traditionally hosts the first race of the Ski World Cup every year in late October on the Rettenbachferner glacier, where you will find many locals cheering on American ski stars such Mr Giant Slalom, Ted Ligety.

The village itself covers only around one square kilometre, yet the many glaciers, mountains and meadows which surround it on all sides make Sölden the largest municipality in Austria with a total surface area of 467 square kilometres. Sölden has a population of around 3,300 inhabitants and records two million overnight stays per year in the 15,000 beds available in its hotels and guesthouses. Until a few decades a remote farming village, Sölden these days has a wealth of experience in giving holidaymakers exactly what they need and want: plenty of snow, majestic mountains over 3,000 metres, and more lifts and pistes than even ambitious skiers could hope to cover in a week. And, last but not least, visitors to Sölden can look forward to plenty of fun, action and entertainment away from the slopes.
