Silvretta High Alpine Road

Galtür

The Silvretta High Alpine Road links Tirol’s Paznaun Valley with Montafon Valley in the Austrian Province of Vorarlberg. This 10-kilometer scenic highway climbs up to Bielerhöhe Pass and Silvretta Reservoir, 2,032 meters above sea level, from Galtür and winds through an Alpine wonderland on the Tirolean side. Known for its expansive views and Alpine scenery, the drive is towered by the highest mountain of Tirol’s Silvretta Range, 3,312-meter Piz Buin Peak. Picturesque Vermunt and Silvretta Reservoirs are recreation and water-storage facilities. A sportsman’s paradise, Bielerhöhe offers fishing, wildlife viewing, hiking, bike riding and boating, along with lakeside eateries. From the top at Bielerhöhe, the drive winds down the mountain into neighbouring Vorarlberg in 30 switchbacks.
