Tarrenz Carnival

Tarrenz, 29.01.2017

The Tarrenz Carnival Parade has become a tradition and a must for anyone hoping to get a real taste of Carnival in Tirol. They even have their own carnival beer!

Held every four years, the Tarrenz Carnival event has always been a magical and anxiously awaited spectacle. Taking place on January 29, 2017, the festive parade is symbolic of the fight between the winter and the spring. A huge crowd rallies to this event in the tiny community north of Imst, often in freezing temperatures, and thousands of locals and guests sing and dance on the streets, awaiting the appearance of the first Carnival floats with their dazzling lights, bright colors and electrifying energy. They create a surge for both young and old.  The most characteristic Carnival mask characters are the so-called “Roller” and “Scheller”, dressed up in brilliant colors to better attract the attention of the passers-by. Very important characters also include the famous witches, whose main task is to raise a bloodcurdling hue and cry.

The impressive procession of floats and masks parades across the village, starting at 12:00 noon. The splendid floats can be admired in advance at Lamm Hotel. The grand festivity even has its own carnival beer!
