Mountain air with the scent of the meadows. Not only is there fascinating nature in all alpine altitudes to discover in Kaunergrat Nature Park, but traditional cultural landscapes too. The “Pitztaler Almenweg - Pitztal Alpine Trail” connects Söllberg-, Mauchele-, Neuberg-, Tiefentalalm and the Arzler Alm together. They all lie at an altitude of around 1,800 metres and wonderful views of the Pitztal Valley and Kaunergrat open up along the trail. Predominantly stocked with young cattle, Mauchele Alm above the village of St. Leonhard in Pitztal is a charming alpine farm, where hikers and mountain bikers gather on beautiful summer days. They sit under the welcome shade offered by pine, larch and spruce trees, because the mountain hut is located beneath the tree line. Many visitors fortify themselves here for a particularly rewarding ascent to the idyllic Lake Brechsee - around 300 uphill metres and an hour’s walk away from Mauchele Alm
