The Austrian Moderate Altitude Study (AMAS) has shown that active vacations at moderate altitude are associated with a variety of positive health effects. In the Zugspitz Arena the trails are located between 700m – 2,500m above sea level and thus ideal for healthy exercise. The region boasts 160 kilometers of running and Nordic walking trails (23 routes) amid the spectacular Wetterstein Mountains. Whether you run along the old Roman Via Claudia Augusta, around idyllic mountain lakes, to the Ehrenberg castle ruins, across wide fields, along burbling brooks or to quaint mountain huts: in the Zugspitz Arena every run will be an outstanding nature experience! The tourist board organizes weekly guided Nordic walking tours such as to Lake Eibsee or to the Three Lakes; the region’s hotels offer attractive packages for active guests.

The region boasts plenty of great running events including the Zugspitz Arena Run, the Zugspitz Extreme Mountain Run and the Lake Heiterwanger Run. Another highlight is the annual Nordic Walking & Running Week which offers great training programs and classes. For your relaxation there are the superb Zugspitz Arena swimming pools, the panorama pools in Lermoos, idyllic Lake Bichlbach, and Bärenarena in Berwang.
