Visitors leaving the Inntal Valley and turning off into the Pitztal Valley will soon reach the village of Arzl, located on a high plateau in the mountains.
With a population of just over 3,000 inhabitants, this municipality perched on a high plateau between the Leiner Kögele and the northern slopes of the Venet is bisected by a gorge carved deep into the limestone by the rushing Pitzbach stream. The Benni-Raich-Brücke, at 94m one of the highest hanging footbridges in Europe, connects the main village of Arzl im Pitztal to the village of Wald with its eye-catching earth pyramids. Adrenaline junkies can plunge head-first into the abyss tied to a bungee rope, while hikers can explore the gorge via the Luis-Trenker-Steig, a walking path named after the famous mountaineer Luis Trenker whose father came from Arzl. The Klettersteig Steinwand is a challenging via ferrata fixed-rope climbing route which begins in the centre of the village. Other outdoor highlights include wildwater rafting on the Inn. During the winter months, skiers and snowboarders are drawn to the nearby Hochzeiger-Jerzens ski resort or the Pitztal Glacier offering snowsure slopes until May.
