Aschau im Zillertal

Located in the heart of the Zillertal Valley, the village of Aschau is the ideal location for visitors wishing to explore the region and experience its many outdoor activities – from hiking in summer and skiing in winter to adrenaline-pumping action high above the ground in the nearby high-rope adventure park.

Aschau takes its name from the large area of wetland ("Au" in German) which covered the Zillertal Valley in the Middle Ages. Today it is home to around 1,900 inhabitants and has its own train station served by the Zillertalbahn line, making it easy for visitors to leave their car at home and enjoy an environmentally-friendly holiday. In winter the surrounding region has plenty to offer skiers and snowboarders. The closest resort is Hochzillertal-Hochfügen, which has a piste leading down into Aschau and is known for its excellent freeriding. Another popular resort near Aschau is Spieljoch, where families in particular will feel right at home. Aschau also has its own campsite, a range of sports facilities, an indoor pool and a climbing wall. Those in search of an alternative to hiking, mountain biking and cycling along the valley floor should visit the Kletterzentrum Zillertal indoor climbing centre or the high-rope adventure park in Kaltenbach. After all that action and adventure, the Erlebnistherme Zillertal spa in Fügen provides the ideal place to relax and unwind.
