Fendels

Perched on a plateau 500 vertical metres above the Upper Inntal Valley, close to the entrance to Kaunertal Valley, lies a village offering spectacular views: Fendels. Here at 1,350 metres above sea level visitors can marvel at the craggy mountains and lush valleys of the Tiroler Oberland.

The municipality has just 250 inhabitants, making it one of the smallest in Tirol. This is also reflected in its villages, which have managed to retain their original charm and character. In the local parish church visitors will find several examples of wood carving, a handicraft inextricably linked to the history of Fendels and its residents. Just outside the village is the "Fallender Bach", a spectacular 160m waterfall. A hike to this natural attraction can be easily combined with a stop at the Anton-Renk-Hütte hut. A cable car connecting Fendels to both the village of Ried on the valley floor and the Sattelklause ridge 400 metres further up the mountain makes it easy to get around throughout the year. In winter Fendels is home to a family-friendly ski resort with its own 4.5km toboggan run.
