Kelchsau

Idyllic Kelchsau lies in a side valley of the Brixental Valley and is popular with visitors, thanks to its natural charm and wide range of summer activities.

This small village with a population of around 700 inhabitants lies in a valley of the same name, which extends south from Hopfgarten im Brixental. Far from mass tourism and busy roads, it is a true haven of peace and quiet. Centuries-old farmhouses are an indication of Kelchsau's long history as a settlement stretching all the way back to the 12th century. Just a few kilometres further south, the valley divides into the Langer Grund and the Kurzer Grund. These two smaller valleys then lead up to the main ridge of the Kitzbühel Alps, an excellent area for hikes in summer and snowshoe adventures in winter. The village also has its own small ski resort popular with families – not least because of the very affordable lift passes. More ambitious skiers and snowboarders should head for the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental. Ski touring enthusiasts also come to Kelchsau to explore the off-piste terrain. In summer there are wildwater sports such as rafting on the Kelchsauer Ache river.
