Skiing in Kirchberg in Tirol

Compared to neighbouring Kitzbühel with its chic boutiques and lifestyle, Kirchberg is smaller and more down to earth. However, the two villages actually share one and the same ski resort. And a world-class one at that! It is here that every January the world-famous Hahnenkamm downhill race takes place on the feared Streif, one of the toughest pistes in the world. During the rest of the season amateurs can test their skills on the same snow as the pros. The Streif can be accessed not only from Kitzbühel but also from Kirchberg using the Fleckalmbahn cable car. However, skiers and snowboarders should be aware that this piste with its famous Mouse Trap really is for experts only. Less experienced skiers can avoid the steepest sections by turning off onto the Familienstreif.

The Kitzbühel-Kirchberg has around 60 pistes in total, including the Ganslernhang where the world's best slalom skiers do battle each January during the Kizubühel race weekend. There are more tough slopes, but there are also plenty of easy runs for beginners and families. One gentle slope that can be easily accessed from Kirchberg is the Ehrenbachhöhe.

A cable car built several years ago connects the Pengelstein area to the south of the Hahnenkamm with the Wurzhöhe even further to the south. This new lift made the resort even larger, and now skiers and snowboarders can zoom all the way non-stop from Kirchberg to Hollersbach im Pinzgau. Freeriders will find plenty of off-piste options at the Kitzbüheler Horn and the Bichlalm. For snowboarders there is the Snowpark Kitzbühel in the south of the resort and the snowpark at the Kitzbüheler Horn.

Dotted throughout the resort are no fewer than 56 huts serving traditional food, including a number of fine dining locations. Indeed, the village of Kitzbühel is home to no fewer than eleven fine-dining restaurants named in some of the world's leading restaurant guides.
