Mötz

Located at the foot of the Mieming Plateau, famous for its warm climate, the municipality of Mötz lies at 654 metres above sea leveland offers visitors the perfect combination of action, relaxation and sunshine.

As early as 1290 there was a bridge over the Inn river in the place where Mötz now stands. As such, this early settlement served an important role as a hub of trade and transport on the river. Today there is not just one but there are several bridges in Mötz over the Inn, including a spectacular hanging bridge. Among the local highlights well worth a visit is the Klammer Wasserfall waterfall, the Burg Klamm fortress and the neo-gothic Maria Locherboden church of pilgrimage. The church ceiling is decorated with intricate paintings by Innsbruck artist Toni Kirchmayr. The Mötzer Klamm gorge has traditionally been home to a settlement of Yenish people, a travelling community mostly found in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Belgium and parts of France.
