Steeg

Steeg, with a population of 680, is the last municipality visitors travel through before they reach the end of the Lechtal Valley. It comprises several hamlets, the westernmost of which (Lechleiten and Gehren) are located at the end of the impressive Lechschlucht gorge, right on the border with the neighbouring province of Vorarlberg.

Steeg, which is connected to the Lechtal Cycle Path, is a quiet village at the foot of the 2,406 m Pimig mountain. It lies at the heart of a large hiking area criss-crossed by signposted trails leading to destinations such as the Bockbachalpe with its Gamsvroni mountain hut serving food and drinks. In winter the area is popular with cross-country skiing enthusiasts thanks to its network of well-prepared trails, while alpine skiers can choose between a number of small family-friendly resorts in the Lechtal Valley and the vast Arlberg ski area. Steeg has also maintained many of its centuries-old traditions and handicrafts, exemplified by the Lorenz wood carving workshop and the Sojer cheesemakers, both of which offer guided tours. Visitors looking to relax and get away from it all should visit the Aqua Nova adventure pool. The village also has its own Kneipp water therapy facility.
