Thiersee

Thiersee is a municipality to the south-east of the Ursprungpass, close to the Bavarian border. It is made up of two small settlements, Landl and Hinterthiersee, and one larger settlement, Thiersee, located between rolling green hills within the district of Kufstein.

From the centre of Thiersee you can see the pretty Lake Thiersee, whose clear waters and warm temperatures of up to 25°C attract swimmers and watersports enthusiasts in summer. The area around the lake is home to many hiking trails, including one leading onto the 1,563 m Pendling overlooking the village. The summit of the Pendling offers magnificent views of Kufstein in the Inntal Valley and the Kaiser Mountains. Another popular attraction in the region is the Ackernalm, home to Tirol’s highest cheese-producing dairy farm. The small ski resort of Thierseetal is ideal for families and beginners. This settlement with a population of 2,850 is probably best known in Tirol for its passion plays put on by local residents every six years. The next performances are scheduled for 2016.
