Tulfes

Perched on a plateau above Hall in Tirol in the Inntal Valley, the farming village of Tulfes enjoys a sunny location at the foot of the 2,677m Glungezer mountain, one of the most popular hiking and skiing areas in the Inntal Valley.

The Glungezerbahn cable car runs from the centre of the village up to the Tufeinalm at 2,035 metres above sea level. From here it is just a couple of hours by foot to the summit of the Glungezer. A highlight for all those who love the great alpine outdoors is the Zirbenweg, a themed hiking trail leading west from the top station of the Glungezerbahn cable car to the neighbouring Patscherkofel mountain. The entire trail is at around 2,000 m altitude and takes walkers through the largest pine forest in the Alps, which covers the ridge connecting the two mountains. The Glungezer is a ski resort in winter popular with beginners and families. Looking to try out something new? Then have a go on a "Klumper", a type of toboggan with just one ski-like runner on which riders have to maintain their balance. Fun “Klumper” races are held regularly in winter and are open to everybody. Nearby Hall in Tirol with its charming medieval old town is a good place for a day trip.
