Wängle

Though the Hahnenkamm in Kitzbühel may be more famous, there is also a second Hahnenkamm in Tirol. This one is to be found in the Außerfern region in the far west of Tirol. At the foot of this mighty mountain lies the holiday village of Wängle.

Near the town of Reutte, at the foot of the Tannheimer Mountains, lies the small municipality of Wängle on the west bank of the Lech river at an altitude of 882 metres. This village, which is home to 860 residents, forms part of the Hahnenkamm ski and hiking area in the Reutte Nature Park Region and is one of the oldest settlements in Tirol. Here on the sunny side of the Lechtal Valley there are many signposted hiking trails, especially around the 1,938 m Hahnenkamm mountain, part of which lies within the municipal borders of Wängle. There are a number of beautiful huts and vantage points such as the Lechaschauer Alpe, the Höfener Alm and the Gehrenalpe. Another attraction is the alpine flower garden next to the top of the Hahnenkammbahn cable car. During the warm summer months, visitors can travel to several nearby lakes including Lake Plansee, the second-largest lake in Tirol. In nearby Reutte there is the Burgenwelt Ehrenberg medieval adventure park with several castle ruins as well as a local history museum. Wintersports enthusiasts can carve their turns on the Hahnenkamm, explore the magical snowy landscape next to the Lech river on foot, or glide through the forests on the many cross-country skiing trails.
