Alpine Cattle Drive in Hopfgarten and Kelchsau
When the cattle return from the alpine pastures to the valley, the people in the Region Hohe Salve celebrate. The “Almabtrieb” (cattle drive) is one of the most beautiful traditions and customs in Tyrol.
Early in the morning the cows and calves are festively decorated with colourful flower arrangements. This is an expression of gratitude that the alpine summer has passed without misfortune.Often the two-legged and four-legged march home for hours, and while the lush meadows in the valley await the cows as a reward, for the alpine herders and dairymen it is the joyful confusion and celebration that welcomes them after weeks of silence on the mountains.
