If you’re feeling especially adventurous, join other ‘polar plungers’ by taking a dip in Achensee Lake on December 31. That’s right, strip down to your skivvies and jump into the ice-cold water of Tirol’s largest lake to join their annual New Year’s Eve Swim tradition. At this time of year, the water of the 4 degree Celsius lake might even be frozen over in a few places. Take the plunge at the lakeside promenade in front of Pertisau’s Post Hotel at 12:30pm. Swim 25 meters to the iceberg as quickly as possible, scale it, ring the New Year’s Eve bell and swim back 25 meters as quickly as possible. The entertainment value at the New Year’s Eve Swim is hard to top.
