Sledding with Kids – Brandstattalm in Stubaital Valley
If there is snow, get out and about, exploring. The best way to enjoy winter is to get outside and play in the snow.
It’s time to go sledding. Physical activity and crisp air. Warm up at a cosy hut before zooming down the mountain on a sled ‘at the speed of light’. So the kids are happy, even those who don’t love the outdoors that much.
Walking up the hill to Brandstattalm at Stubaital Valley took us one and a half hours to complete last Saturday. Snaking down through forest, the sledding run is perfectly suitable for kids. Storytelling and sweets provided great motivation to keep my girls moving on trail. The last few meters were effortless as “when we get to the hut ahead we’ll need to have an energy stop,” they both wanted to be first to reach Brandstattalm. A dog barked at us loudly as we came up to the hut. Obviously, as read on a sign, this dog doesn’t like to be stroked.
Brandstattalm for that Rustic Mountain Feeling
Brandstattalm is a rustic cabin with a crackling fireplace that adds warmth and ambiance to the place. It is usually very crowded on weekends – but fortunately we had turned up on a day that was not so busy and easily got a table. The service is attentive and personal. She promptly took care of our special requests and fried eggs were cooked for Mia. The menu exhibits the best in Tirolean culinary values. With dishes including “Kaspressknödel”, flat bread dumplings filled with hearty cheese, and “Kaiserschmarren”, a fluffy shredded pancake, diners know they are in for a good time.
Zooming Down the Mountain
The sun was very strong that Saturday – I was tempted to sit down and take a sunbathe on the wooden benches with sheepskin throws on them in front of the cabin; my girls, instead, insisted on sledding down to the valley at once. The sledding run was in perfect condition on Saturday. A few giggle-inducing moguls added up to the fun… A good sledding day was had by all! Good to know: If you don’t want to lug your sled up the hill, Brandstattalm rents sleds. For Information about Tobogganing in Tirol please see www.tyrol.com/tobogganing
