When I attended a wine tasting a few years ago, the sommelier asked me whether I was a wine connoisseur or not. I had to admit that I had no idea of wine. “But you know if you like a wine?” he continued asking, “Well, yes” I answered. “Here you are,” he said, “you know a whole lot about wine…”
I was flattered. Luckily, you don’t have to be a wine-maker or have a basement cellar in order to appreciate fine wine. You don’t need to know everything about the fundamentals of viticulture, production, grape varieties and vintages—it really comes down to paying attention and to find out what you’re tasting and being able to recognize what you like. The same is true for other drinks, too. That’s why I asked myself which bars across Tirol claim the largest selections of a certain beverage. So, if you want to venture into the world of gins, wines and craft beers, now might be a good time to have a go. Here are three great places to start in Tirol. Cheers.

at “Stollen 1930” in Kufstein
A bar at the heart of Kufstein, hidden in an old tunnel and decorated in an old-timey, speakeasy-style theme. Well, that’s something. But there’s even more to that. This stylish American-style bar claims to have the largest selection of gin in the world, with more than 900 different varieties.
Gin enthusiasts Richard Hirschhuber, owner of the adjoining “Auracher Löchl” Restaurant, and Stollen host Martin Gasteiger have secured their place in the Guinness World Records book for collecting the world’s largest selection of gin, from well-known international brands over rarities to small-batch distillers. At 900 gins and counting, apparently, there are many possible pairings – that’s a lifetime of G&Ts. But don’t worry, come down to the Stollen 1930 where the talented bar team, who are expert alchemists, are happy to mix a cocktail of your choice and help you unwind and relax.

at Angerer Alm in St. Johann
The cabin on Kitzbühel Horn Mountain is more than 200 years old. What once was the area’s highest-lying mountain farm at an elevation of 1,300 meters above sea level today is a rustic lodge at the heart of the ski resort with uninterrupted panoramic views of rugged and jagged Wilder Kaiser Mountain Range.

at Tribaun in Innsbruck
This beer bar on Museumstraße Street is THE place where you can indulge in everything that is great about craft beer in Tirol’s capital. At Tribaun, you’ll find a grown-up but laid back vibe, where you and your friends can relax and enjoy.
They offer 20 desirable craft beer drafts that are hand-selected and rotated to fit the desires of beer-loving friends (for once you set foot in the Tribaun, you are always a friend). No easy task to decide which beer to choose… From which one of the 20 draught faucets shall I taste? From the one to the left or from the third to the right?
