Backdropped by the lofty Lechtal Alps in the cloak of winter, this gorgeous walk to Ehenbichl Alpine Pasture Hut is a great way to commune with nature. Gaining 650 meters of elevation, this delightful tour takes hikers along a cleared winter walking trail through sunny open vistas, into hushed stands of sweet-smelling pine, spruce and fir, and the views of the small village of Brand on the other side of the valley are unparalleled. Up on Ehenbichl Alpine Pasture Hut, the efforts are rewarded with uninterrupted views and close-ups of Zugspitze, Germany’s tallest mountain. Their specialty is a mountain-inspired stew of vegetables and organic, locally sourced goat meat.

3 Kufstein | Gasthof Pfandl
For a breathtaking jaunt in more ways than one, this route climbs 285 wooden steps for a good cardio workout in the beginning, taking you across Kaisertal, which is widely considered one of Austria’s most beautiful mountain valleys. The vistas of the lofty peaks of Wilder and Zahmer Kaiser Mountain Ranges will take your breath away, too. Destination of this easy winter walk is lovely Antonius Chapel that was erected in a sunny foothill location in the year 1711. The quaint parlours of Pfandlhof Inn are a wonderful place to warm up over hearty Tirol staples and venison specialties.

4 Seefeld Olympia Region | Hämmermoosalm & Gaistalalm
Scenic Gaistal Valley was the home and inspiration of Bavarian vernacular writer and poet Ludwig Ganghofer, who loved to spend time writing and hunting here. Today, this snow-laden terrain of stunning natural beauty between Wetterstein and Mieminger Kette Mountain Ranges provides splendid, easy winter walk opportunities. Hämmermoosalm Alpine Pasture Hut is renowned for their amazing, homemade “Kaiserschmarrn”, while Gaistalalm Alpine Pasture Hut lures hungry hikers with mouth-watering, homemade cheese dumplings. Where to stop? Well, we strongly recommend trying them both!
