Faggen

The picturesque municipality of Faggen at the start of the Kaunertal Valley lies within the Kaunergrat Nature Park. Covering a surface area of just 3.6 square kilometres, it is the smallest municipality in the Oberes Gericht area of western Tirol and has a population of 370.

Situated close to the Inn river, Faggen has plenty to offer visitors who enjoy exploring the great outdoors. The Kaunergrat Nature Park and its majestic mountains are one huge playground for hikers and mountain bikers, with plenty of traditional huts serving excellent local food. During the winter months there is good skiing and snowboarding in Fendels and on the Kaunertal Glacier, which remains open until June.

Water has always played a big role in Faggen. The "Sauerbrunnquelle", for example, is a natural spring with mineral water rich in iron which can be drunk straight from the source. The local hydroelectric power plant in the Kaunertal Valley, one of the largest in Austria, also welcomes visitors. Families can walk along the Kaunerberg Water Trail or spend relaxing hours splashing around in the open-air swimming pool in nearby Prutz with its 42m slide.
