Attractions in the Imst Region

Imst may be famous for its raucous carnival celebrations in February, but has plenty to offer visitors all year round. Deep canyons, high-alpine roads, swimming lakes, museums, a collection of carved wooden masks and a unique brewery – Imst has lots to see, do and explore.

The mighty Rosengartenschlucht canyon has been carved into the rock over many millions of years, while the Adlerhorst (Eagle's Nest) viewing platforms above Imst offer majestic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Don't forget to check out the hidden road winding its way up over the Hahntennjoch ridge and down the other side of the mountain into the neighbouring Lechtal Valley – a firm favourite with motorcyclists and roadbike riders. Another high-speed experience, this time for all the family, is the Alpine Coaster. It is a one-seater mini rollercoaster which can reach speeds of up to 40km/h as it twists and turns its way down the mountainside. On hot days there is no better way to cool off than with a dip in the swimming lake at Hoch-Imst. Imst is famous throughout Tirol and beyond for its carnival celebrations in February. Two museums, one im Imst and one in nearby Nassereith, tell the story of these celebrations and display some of the intricately carved masks and colourful costumes that feature prominently. Last but not least the Erlebnisbrauerei Schloss Starkenberg is a working brewery where visitors can learn how beer is made and even take a "beer bath".
