Attractions in the Ötztal Valley

Action and relaxation, spectacular landscapes and untouched nature – the Ötztal Valley is a harmony of contrasts. Visitors to this region in the west of Tirol can follow in the footsteps of Ötzi the Iceman, take on the region's wildest rivers and explore the eternal ice of alpine glaciers.

Tirol is known for its mountains, but there are few places where you can climb higher than in the Ötztal Valley. Down on the valley floor, the Ötzi Village invites visitors to find out what life would have been like here over 5,000 years ago, when Ötzi the Iceman set out on his fateful journey into the Alps. Further popular attractions include the Stuibenfall, Tirol's highest waterfall, and the Timmelsjoch Mountain Road winding its way up over the Timmelsjoch pass at 2,509 metres above sea level. Motorcyclists and roadbike riders in search of a challenge will love it. The Aqua Dome leisure centre and spa is open all year round, while the Area 47 outdoor adventure park offers all manner of adrenaline-pumping activities in summer. The Ötztal Valley also has some of the best rafting in Tirol on the (in)famous Ötztaler Ache. Guided canyoning adventures can be booked with local mountain guides. And for James Bond fans there is a permanent exhibition on the Gaislachkogel high above Sölden, where several scenes from the blockbuster movie Spectre were filmed with the man himself Daniel Craig.
