Being home to a large network of well-signposted and well-maintained paths, the Karwendel Silver Region is ideal for all those who love exploring the winter landscape on foot.
The Karwendel Silver Region has a divers offers of winter walks, from sunny trails high up in the mountains such as the one in Hüttegg near the village of Weerberg to the hike into the remote Rißtal Valley in the heart of the Karwendel Mountains. This hike starts in the small village of Hinterriß and takes walkers to the Alpengasthof Eng (a traditional restaurant which is closed in the winter months) and through the Großer Ahornboden with its huge maple trees dating back many hundreds of years. The road to the Großer Ahornboden is closed in winter, meaning there are no cars or coaches to disturb the experience. Most of the hiking trails in the region lead past at least one traditional wooden hut serving culinary delicacies from the region in front of a roaring fire.
