St. Ulrich Mountain Pine Oil Distillery

St. Ulrich

St. Ulrich on the shores of picturesque Pillersee Lake is home to the oldest mountain pine oil distillery in the world. For more than 150 years, the Mack Family has been distilling locally sourced pine trees, silver firs, fragrant hay and arnica flowers by means of steam under pressure. One of the products thus obtained, which has considerable commercial importance, is known as Mountain Pine Oil. It has a pleasant odour, resembling that of caraway or Juniper Oil, and is used in perfumery for soaps, detergents, disinfectants and bath preparations. The oil is even used as curative treatment in the renowned German Spa Resort of Bad Reichenhall. Visitors can watch how pine essential oil is obtained using steam distillation and learn about its history at the museum on premises. Moreover, you can buy high quality skin care products, bath and body care products, herbal teas and candies from the Distillery Shop.
