Musical Theatre in Tirol

Choose between dramatic opera performances, entertaining operetta or modern musicals. Here are a few tips for some memorable moments for musical theatre fans.

Either you love it or you hate it – the opera. If the former applies, you will certainly enjoy all that Tirol has to offer: Here you can enjoy fabulous performances with singers of international calibre. Those less keen will probably prefer the catchy operetta performances.

1. Tiroler Landestheater

The beautiful Great House at the Tiroler Landestheaters is home to operatic classics ranging from Verdi to Mozart. Those who prefer somewhat lighter music can opt for operetta or a musical.

2. Innsbruck Festival of Early Music

The Innsbruck Festival of Early Music is highly regarded well beyond the borders of Austria for its high artistic standards and is a must-see for early music enthusiasts. Every year, the programme includes seldom performed but nonetheless enjoyable Baroque operas.

3. Tirolean Festival Erl

Wagnerians have long been familiar with the Tirolean Festival Erl – as the fours operas that constitute the “Ring” are performed annually here on four consecutive days! Other operas can also be seen at the new Festival Theatre.

4. Kufstein Summer Operetta

Who can resist, the catchy hits from operettas such as „Der Vogelhändler – The Bird Seller“ or „Die Fledermaus – The Bat“? Every summer, guests are treated to enchanting Operetta Evenings in Kufstein set in the stunning open-air venue at Kufstein Fortress.
