Kathrein Rodeln

Kathrein Rodeln is a family-run company based in the Tiroler Oberland which has been producing toboggans of the highest quality for around 130 years.

People from the Tiroler Oberland, the area to the west of Innsbruck, have a reputation for being stubborn, even obstinate – a characteristic which may be linked to the rough and unforgiving landscape in this part of the world. However, such stubbornness can, of course, be seen as something positive – determination and knowing exactly what you want. It is this determination and dedication which has made Kathrein Rodeln one of the most well-known and well-respected toboggan manufacturers in a region where this sport is popular with everyone from families with children to ambitious amateurs and even seasoned pros.

The Kathrein Rodeln factory is located in Prutz at the start of the Kaunertal Valley. It was founded over a century ago, originally as a wheelwright's workshop making carriage wheels, large toboggans for transporting hay and other agricultural tools. Around 130 years ago, the family started producing toboggans for leisure purposes, with a decision being taken around 25 years ago to focus exclusively on building these beautifully crafted wooden machines using a combination of centuries of expertise and state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques.

Toboggans for everyone

As you would expect, Kathrein Rodeln offers a broad range of toboggans catering for all ambition levels and abilities. One model popular for many years is the classic "Touren-Rodel", an easy-to-steer all-rounder. Kathrein is also a specialist for hire toboggans. Instead of dragging the toboggan uphill through the snow until you reach the start of the descent, why not hire a toboggan at the top of the mountain (for example, at a cosy hut) and enjoy the best of both worlds – easy up, easy down!
