East Tirol Ice Climbing Festival

Matrei in Osttirol, 14.01.2022 - 16.01.2022

The Ice Climbing Festival brings climbers to the northern end of Matrei’s Tauern Valley to celebrate the growing sport of ice climbing with clinics, demos and the “East Tirol Ice Master” competition.

For three days, Matrei in East Tirol is an absolute ice climbing mecca as ice climbers of all abilities, ages, and backgrounds travel from around the world to celebrate the growing sport of ice climbing. Festival participants are sure to have an experience to remember, including an introductory lecture given by mountain guide and professional alpinist Simon Gietl from Italy’s South Tyrol. While sharing the beloved wilderness experience of East Tirol during the day, the sixth Ice Climbing Festival brings to Matrei Tauernhaus Lodge ice climbing clinics, demos of the latest gear, world-class athletes and guides on Saturday and Sunday, and the legendary camaraderie of the climbing tribe. On Saturday at 1:30pm, spectators can watch the best ice climbing talent battle for the title of the “East Tirol Ice Master”.
