Kaunertal “Gletscherkaiser”

Kaunertal, 14.06.2020

Riders seeking a bit of competition can empty the tank through this road race that includes significant elevation change on its way to the 2,750 meter Glacier — that is, hill-climbing, and lots of it!

“Searching for the Emperor on majestic roads in royal countries!” is the philosophy of the Kaunertal Gletscherkaiser road race, literally “Emperor of the Glacier”. For its 16th edition in 2018, the race has even got longer and tougher: This year again, tireless riders can expect to pedal 122 kilometers and 4,000 vertical meters, including several rigorous climbs across Kaunergrat Nature Park, Pitztal Valley and Imst.

Undisputed highlight in the true sense of the word remains the finish at Kaunertal Glacier, at an elevation of 2,750 meters where the fastest rider will earn recognition as “Emperor of the Glacier.” This is the second highest mountaintop finish in all of Austria. Riders participating in both the “Gletscherkaiser” race and in the Three Countries Tour in Nauders compete for the “Giro Kaiser Cup”.
