For 29 seasons, the Geierwally Outdoor Stage has delighted audiences with amazing performances under the stars. The 30th anniversary is celebrated with Nik P., Semino Rossi and Chris Steger.
A native of Elbigenalp, Anna Stainer Knittel was immortalized in the heroic figure of “Geierwally”; the material of the novel was adapted countless times for the theater, and the novel itself was translated into eleven languages and filmed various times. Born in 1841, Anna Stainer Knittel became a role model, a female with qualities usually associated with only the best men of this Alpine folk, an unyielding figure who defies even the mountain spirits. Thirty years ago, Tirol-native and author Felix Mitterer wrote a modern theater piece called “Die Geierwally” for Elibgenalp and brought the subject matter back to the very place where it originates. Mitterer looked for an authentic setting for his piece and found it at the entrance of Bernhardstal Gorge. In 1993, “Die Geierwally” had its premiere on the newly built outdoor stage of the same name. Each summer for 29 seasons, the spectacular outdoor venue has been celebrating and exploring culture through productions of superior artistic quality and community engagement. The 30th anniversary is celebrated in the summer of 2023 with the revival of “Die Geierwally” along with live acts by stars like Semino Rossi, Nik P., Bluatschink, and more.
