One of the most traditional Krampus Runs in Tirol, the event in Tarrenz is much like they have been for over a century, with some of the masks on display more than 100 years old.
Zombie and alien masks, characters from fantasy films, glass eyes – all these modern trends which have become popular at Krampus Runs in recent years are not to be found in Tarrenz. Instead, custom and tradition are very much the name of the game. This year's celebrations take place on December 6, 2020, with many elements and even some costumes dating back to 1880: Hand-carved, wooden masks, heavy and elaborate dresses made of lamb skin and goat skin and traditional willow branches brandished as weapons. The oldest mask on display was carved in 1914. With flaming red torches burning bright and a wagon pulled by hand, the Krampuses process through the village from 8:00pm onwards. One day earlier, on December 5, 2020 at 7:00pm, it is the turn of the young Krampuses to parade through Tarrenz.
