The “Krone Ride to Höll” in Innsbruck gives 2,018 amateur riders a chance to pedal in the footsteps of the World Champions, in the most rigorous climb of the UCI Road World Championships — that is, hill-climbing, at a grade of up to 28 percent!
Starting on September 29, 2018 at 10:00am in front of the Tirol Provincial Theater in Innsbruck, this gruelling ride pits 2,018 amateur athletes against one another in the most rigorous climb of the UCI Road World Championships. The ambitious riders will end their “race of truth” with a relentlessly steep climb up to aptly named “Höttinger Höll” (“Hölle” translates to hell in English!). With a grade of 28 percent at its steepest part, a ramp on foot of Nordkette Mountain Range, this is the toughest section of the 2018 Worlds, designed to maximize steepness and (apparently) hurtiness.
Amateur riders seeking a bit of competition can empty the tank through the “Krone Ride to Höll” that includes significant elevation change on its way: This short but demanding race climbs a nasty 291 meters in elevation in just 3.2 kilometers. Those who reach the finish line at Gramartboden, can compare their time to that of the pro riders, who have to tackle the “Hell” during the 2018 Road World Championships. The two fastest riders will earn recognition as “Queen of Höll” and “King of Höll”.
