The 2018 Music in the Giant chamber music festival celebrates its 15th anniversary by paying tribute to one of today’s most influential composers, Philip Glass, who will appear as pianist.
An extraordinarily diverse and full program distinguishes the 2018 Music in the Giant Festival that celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. The chamber music festival will provide insight into the work of American composer Philip Glass with a particular emphasis on his piano music. Philip Glass is widely regarded as one of the most influential musicians of our times. His compositions have been described as minimal music. As many as four pianos will be played at the same time in the concert on May 25, 2018. Glass’s chamber music will be performed by American conductor and pianist Dennis Russell Davies, a close friend and long-time musical associate of Glass. Additional performers include Maki Namekawa, who will perform Glass’ famous “Tirol Concerto for Piano and Orchestra”, the Tirol Chamber Orchestra “InnStrumenti”, and Philip Glass himself.
Vocal music from the Renaissance and Baroque, as well as Classical works for string quartet and quintet are on the program in five additional concerts.
