The traditional cattle drive in Kössen has turned into the new Kaiserwinkl Smuggler’s Festival, celebrating the times long past when smuggling was thriving in this scenic Tirolean-Bavarian border area.
As the name suggests, the Smuggler’s Festival is all about “smuggling”. Local clubs and associations will be catering for visitors with signature delicacies. The most important smuggler's goods were and still are cheese and eaux de vie. Moreover, medicinal herbs, incense and health products will be available.
The 2024 S’Kaiserwinkl Smuggler’s Festival will begin at 11:00am on Saturday, September 21, with the tapping of the beer barrel. A huge parade with smugglers, horse-drawn carriages and vintage vehicles will take place at 4:00pm. Live music will be provided by “Echt Böhmisch”, “Vivat Musikanten”, “Saubochmusi”, the Kössen Brass Band and with a live act by “Guten a-Band” on the village square at 4:00pm. A free shuttle bus service will between the villages of Rettenschöss, Walchsee and Kössen.
