Sixenhof Local Heritage Museum hosts a special exhibition that tells the story of Tirol singer Ludwig Rainer and how he helped spread “Silent Night! Holy Night!” throughout the world 200 years ago.
Singer Ludwig Rainer, the famous offspring of the Original Rainer Family Singers from Zillertal Valley, helped spread “Silent Night! Holy Night!” throughout the world 200 years ago. When Ludwig Rainer finally returned to Tirol in 1868, he had Hotel Seehof erected in Achenkirch at Achensee Lake Region. The elegant luxury hotel with all the creature comforts opened its doors in 1870 and lured guests from all over the world. He also had tiny Seehofkapelle Lake Chapel built. The chapel with its beautiful altar in Gothic Revival style can still be visited. This special exhibition at Sixenhof Local Heritage Museum celebrates Ludwig Rainer and the most recorded Christmas song in the modern era that had its 200th anniversary in the year 2018.
Pride of place is given to the original trunk where Ludwig Rainer stored his clothes. Ludwig Rainer, the famous offspring of the Original Rainer Family Singers, ambassador of “Silent Night! Holy Night!” and one of the world’s first “music producers”, has found his final resting place on the graveyard of Achenkirch, which can be visited as well. Seehofkapelle Lake Chapel is within a delightful 30 minute walk along the shores of Achensee Lake.
