Durlaßbodenstausee

Durlaßbodenstausee Reservoir is both a natural attraction in its own right and a popular leisure centre. It is located in the village of Gerlos in the Zillertal Valley at 1,400 metres above sea level and is filled with natural water running down off the mountains.

This also means that the lake is relatively cold, though during periods of hot weather in summer it can reach up to 21°C. As well as swimming there are plenty of other activities, such as windsurfing lessons with Surfschule Gerlos, the highest surfing school anywhere in Austria, or pedalo excursions out onto the reservoir. Scuba diving is also popular, especially in autumn when visibility can reach up to 20 metres.

Next to the reservoir is a large sunbathing lawn with a children’s area and several barbeque spots. Facilities also include toilets, showers and changing cabins.

Hikers can explore the walking trail leading around the lake and past several huts serving food, while runners can sign up for the Gerlos Lake Run, a 12.6K cross-country race along the reservoir towards Bärschlagalm Hut that takes place every year in mid-August.
