Durlassboden Stausee reservoir is both a natural attraction in its own right and a popular place for relaxing in summer. It is located in the village of Gerlos in the Zillertal Valley at 1,400 metres above sea level and fed by rushing streams running down off the mountains.
The fresh mountain meltwater means the reservoir remains pretty cold throughout the year, reaching a maximum of 21°C in summer. As well as swimming there are plenty of other activities on offer. Why not hire a pedalo and head out onto the reservoir to explore? Scuba diving is also popular here, especially in autumn when visibility underwater can reach up to 20 metres.
Next to the reservoir is a large sunbathing area with several barbeque spots. Facilities include toilets, showers and changing cabins.
Walkers can explore the trail leading around the lake, taking in several huts serving food and drink. We also recommend the walk from the Alpengasthof Finkau to the Leitenkammerklamm gorge.
