Blindsee

Lake Blindsee at the foot of the Fernpass connecting Austria to Germany is an idyllic mountain lake perched at over 1,000 metres above sea level. The lake‘s high altitude means that its waters are generally quite cold, but during periods of warm weather in summer the temperature can rise as high as 24°C.

Whatever the water temperature, the Blindsee is a popular destination throughout the summer months and draws a large number of visitors thanks to its large sunbathing lawns and pebble beach.

The many underwater tree trunks also make it one of the most interesting lakes in the region for scuba divers, who don’t mind the cold water in their thick neoprene suits and appreciate the excellent underwater visibility which is only impeded by the influx of meltwater at the end of the winter. Visibility can reach up to 30 metres in good conditions.

Divers require a permit from the owner of the lake, the Hotel MOHR life resort in Lermoos. The same applies to anglers hoping to get their hands on some of the trout, whitefish, bass, carp and char which populate the lake.

Swimmers can access the lake free of charge. A pretty walking trail leading around the shore offers great views of the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain.
