Trail description

Day 1: Walchsee - Erfpendorf
Elevation Gain/Elevation Loss: 600/610 meters, Distance: 28.8 kilometers, easy

From the trailhead on day one, Walchsee, the route crosses relatively flat, undulating terrain before it assumes climbing to Ottenalm Alpine Pasture Hut. A short section before reaching Horaualm usually forces riders to haul their bike by hand. From the Alpine pasture hut, it’s a downhill ride to Niederbichl. An alternate route takes riders from Walchsee Lake to Niederbichl. In Niederbichl, follow the cycle path to Gasteig and continue riding past Kirchdorf until you get to Erpfendorf, the destination end of this day.

Day 2: Erfpendorf - Fieberbrunn
Elevation Gain/Elevation Loss: 430/290 meters, Distance: 31.2 kilometers, easy

From Erpfendorf, the cycle path and a broad gravel trail will bring you to Waidring, where the route into Pillerseetal Valley and the lake of the same name begins. You ride along quiet back roads with an easy grade along the eastern shores of picture-postcard Pillersee Lake on your way to Wiesensee Lake and Hochfilzen. The final section runs parallel to the railway on gravel down to Fieberbrunn.

Day 3: Fieberbrunn - Scheffau
Elevation Gain/Elevation Loss: 500/500 meters, Distance: 35.8 kilometers, easy

In Fieberbrunn, take “17 Buchensteinwandrunde” mountain bike route to get past the hamlet of Schönau-Pertrach and Vornbichl to Hochegg. From there, a downhill ride brings you to Mühlau /St. Jakob im Haus. Turn left on the main road and take the first fork to the right after 100 meters to access “18 Kalksteinrunde” mountain bike route, which you follow to Obwall, Mühlbach and St. Johann in Tirol. The perfectly waymarked route runs through undulating terrain and takes you past Going and Ellmau to Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser.

Alternate Route: From Fieberbrunn, ride to Mühlbach and along a broad gravel trail across Riesenbergköpfl to 1,773-meter Hornköpfl Peak, which is located slightly beneath Kitzbüheler Horn Peak. The route continues down to the valley along gravel trails and paved roads, with field roads bringing you to St. Johann and eventually to Scheffau.

Day 4: Scheffau - Walchsee
Elevation Gain/Elevation Loss: 1,160/1,240 meters, Distance: 45.4 kilometers, easy

The ride on the last day starts with a climb from Scheffau to Kaiseralm Alpine Pasture Hut, situated at an elevation of 1,150 meters. A short descent on gravel delivers you to Hintersteinersee Lake, an aquatic jewel of awesome natural beauty. Pass the lake on its northern shore and climb on a gravel road at the lake’s end, followed by a bit of hike-a-bike. The downhill route continues to Egerbach and eventually reaches Inntal Valley and Kufstein. The valley floor is relatively flat, which makes for easy riding along broad cycle paths and gravel roads. A last climb brings you back to the trailhead of day one, scenic Walchsee Lake.

Alternate Route: From Scheffau you can cycle to Kufstein on the flat valley floor as well.
